Terms of Service
Effective date: 2 August 2026 — these terms apply to all use of Certprobe.
1. Service Description
Certprobe is a single-purpose diagnostic tool that opens a TLS connection to a hostname you provide and reports the certificate chain the server actually presents. It is provided as a free service ("Free plan") while a paid "Pro plan" with additional features is in development.
Certprobe has no user accounts, no saved history, no email alerts, no scheduled re-checks, and no database of past probes. Every interaction is stateless; results are displayed on screen and discarded on refresh.
2. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Certprobe only to inspect TLS certificates for hostnames you own or are authorised to probe. You may not:
- Use the service to probe networks, IP ranges, or subdomains without authorisation.
- Automate probes at a rate that disrupts the service for other users (rate limits apply and may change without notice).
- Attempt to circumvent any technical limitation of the service, including the single-hostname-per-request constraint.
3. Intellectual Property
The Certprobe service, its branding, logo, and visual design are owned by the Certprobe project. The probe results you obtain are factual information about the server you probed and are not subject to restrictions from this agreement.
4. Billing
Free Plan
The Free plan costs $0. There is no billing period, no subscription, and no payment information required. Features available under the Free plan are provided without charge, and no billing relationship exists between you and Certprobe when using the Free plan.
Pro Plan (when available)
When the Pro plan launches, the following billing terms will apply:
- What you buy: Access to Pro-tier features including batch probing, CSV export, CLI tools, and REST API access, as described on the Pricing page.
- Price: The monthly price displayed on the Pricing page at the time of subscription. The price is fixed for your subscription period; price changes for new subscribers do not affect active subscriptions.
- Billing period: Monthly, billed in advance on the day you subscribe. Your subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled.
- Failed payment: If a charge fails (card declined, expired, insufficient funds), Certprobe will retry the charge automatically up to 3 times over approximately 7 days. If all retries fail, access to Pro-tier features will be suspended until a successful payment is made. You will not be charged for the period of suspended access.
- Refund policy: All charges are non-refundable except in the case of a service defect that prevents you from using the Pro features you paid for, and which Certprobe fails to remedy within 7 days of your report. In that case, you are entitled to a prorated refund for the unused portion of the billing period.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
Certprobe is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The probe results reflect what the target server presented at the moment of connection and may differ from what a browser or client would display. Certprobe does not guarantee that a certificate is valid, that a chain is complete for every client, or that a hostname is properly secured.
6. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall Certprobe be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to the use or inability to use the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
7. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated at any time. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated effective date.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
9. Contact
This is a single-purpose service with no user-facing support channel. If you have questions about these terms, raise them through the repository or channel through which you received access to this service.
